Phoenix Eats

Some of my favorite places to get a bite to eat….

5th and Wine – the first place I tried garlic fries.

Big Earls Greasy Eats – in the town of Cave Creek – an old gas station turned eatery.  Great burgers, milkshakes and sweet potato fries.

Cheuvront Restaurant & Wine Bar  – if you like cheese and wine this is the place to go!

Chelsea’s Kitchen – 2 locations, Arcadia and the Phoenix International Airport.  I must confess I’ve eaten at the airport location more than Arcadia but the menu is the same; wonderful!  I love the Kale  & Quinoa Salad with grilled Chicken and my sister is a big fan of the Crispy Lobster Sliders.  Plus they have Davis Bynum Pinot Noir – Yum!

Coup des Tartes – French food on the lighter side.  Patio dining under the tree by the fountain is a must!  BYOB when we were there.

Davanti Enoteca – located North of Fashion Square with small plates meant to shared, this amazing Italian joint also serves up pizza, pasta & gourmet entrees.  Must Try!

El Encanto  – Mexican food in the town of Cave Creek complete with ducks, geese and a small pond.  Great salsa and tons of tequilas to choose from.

Federal Pizza – Gourmet wood fired pizza and salads from the Postino/Chelsea’s Kitchen group.  Housed in a restored bank building originally designed by Al Beadle (mid-century modern) complete with a to-go window via the old bank teller drive through.  This fun dining spot is 45 minutes from our house but we loved it so much, we ate there twice in one week.  Put this on your list!

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse – what can I say…Outstanding filet mignon.

Hanny’s – hip and trendy.  It was here I had my first  St. Germain cocktail.

La Grande Orange  – the best and largest house-made english muffins I’ve ever had!

Matt’s Big Breakfast – as seen on Diners, Drive-in’s and Dives.  New expanded location with fresh, local food.  Breakfast and Lunch only.

North – Kierland Commons has a great patio for Lemon Drop Martini’s and watching the beautiful people and expensive cars pass by.

Olive & Ivy – one of my favorite Scottsdale hangouts for appetizers and a cocktail enjoyed on the huge patio with its many Ficus trees.

Pasta Brioni – loved the spaghetti and meatballs.

Pizzeria Bianco  – simple menu of wood burning oven pizzas, salads & house-made mozzarella.  The wait can be 1-2 hours so hangout in the bar next door.

Phoenix Public Market – Downtown Phoenix open air Farmers Market Wednesday & Saturdays with Food Truck Fridays.

Postino Wine Cafe – housed in a former post office, this cool eatery has cement floors, roll up doors to enjoy the beautiful mild winter-spring-fall weather and all the bruschetta is fabulous!  Be sure to check out LGO (La Grande Orange) next door & snag a MJ’s double chocolate cookie or better yet, house-made english muffins.

Seasons 52 – healthy, fresh seasonal food with a menu that changes 4 times a year.  Decent wine selection.

Trattoria del Piero – This wonderful eatery is in Union at Biltmore Fashion Park.  Union is a collection of locally owned boutiques, all under the same roof, which makes it easy to browse from one to the next. At the North end you will find the Trattoria next to a beautiful umbrella covered patio.  This is a great place to enjoy a Peach Bellini with a sandwich or salad.  I had the Goat Cheese, Artichoke, Garlic Tapenade sandwich.  It was filled with roasted tomatoes, roasted crushed pistachios and arugula on artisan bread – it was delicious!  We also enjoyed the Quinoa & Roasted Vegetables salad with chicken – Yum as well!  Not to be missed is a Blood Orange Olive Oil cupcake for desert.

Tavern Americana – The locally sourced, seasonal menu features a Roasted Beet and Goat Cheese salad that is out of this world among many other culinary delights!  The Scottsdale Grayhawk location is my favorite with roll-up garage doors for patio dining when the weather blesses us with cooler temps.

True Food – Love child of Dr. Andrew Weil and Fox Restaurants. Healthy food that tastes good!  Hummus, Kale Salad and Immunity Soup are a few favorites.

Zinburger – the Veggie Burger here is my favorite with 13 different ingredients including quinoa, zinfandel onions, mushrooms and spinach.  It’s topped with smoked mozzarella and pea shoots – can you get any better than that?!  The french fries, sweet potato fries, truffle fries and Milkshakes are out of this world!  The wine list is nothing fancy – the usual suspects – but I always find something I enjoy.
